Public liability

What counts as a "work activity"?

Pretty much anything you do as part of your trade. Including some surprising things.

Public liability cover applies to "work activities" you've declared on your policy. That's a broader definition than just the actual job in front of you.

Things that almost always count

  • Doing the job itself (building, fitting, fixing, servicing)
  • Travelling between job sites
  • Carrying tools and materials in and out of a customer's property
  • Quoting jobs on customers' premises
  • Cleaning up after a job

Things that need a closer look

  • Working at height (some policies have height limits, often 10 metres)
  • Hot works (welding, soldering, anything with a flame)
  • Work involving asbestos
  • Working with listed buildings
