Public liability
Public liability or Employers' Liability?
If you have any staff or subcontractors, Employers' Liability is a legal requirement.
Two different covers. Most trades need both at some point.
Public liability
Protects you if a member of the public, a client, or anyone who isn't your employee gets hurt or has their property damaged because of your work.
Employers' Liability
Protects you if your own staff get hurt or fall ill because of their job. It's a legal requirement in the UK if you employ anyone, including most subcontractors who work under your control.
The fine for not having Employers' Liability when you need it is up to £2,500 per day.
You can buy both together as a combined "Public & Employers' Liability" policy, which is what most trades end up doing.
