Van insurance

What class of use do I need?

Social, business or carriage of own goods. Pick the wrong one and a claim can be turned down.

The class of use on your van policy decides what you're insured to do with the van. Pick the wrong one and your insurer can turn down a claim.

Social use only

Just for personal trips. Shopping, school run, visiting family. Not insured to drive to or from a place of work.

Social plus commuting

Personal trips plus driving to and from one regular place of work. Not insured to carry tools or stock for the business.

Business use

Personal trips, commuting, plus using the van for work. If you're a sole trader, a builder, a sparky, a plumber, a courier or a mobile mechanic, this is almost always what you need.

Carriage of own goods

A more specific version of business use, for when you're carrying your own tools, materials or stock, not somebody else's goods. Most trade customers fall in here.

Carriage of goods for hire and reward

Couriers, parcel-delivery drivers and anyone paid to move other people's goods. A different class to the others above and priced differently.
