Add-ons

Excess reimbursement, explained

Pays your excess back to you after a successful claim.

Every motor policy has an excess: the amount you pay yourself before the insurer pays anything. Excess reimbursement is a separate, cheap add-on that pays that excess back to you after you've made a successful claim.

Why it's popular with trade customers

If you have a £500 compulsory excess and a £250 voluntary excess on top, a single claim costs you £750 before the insurer pays a penny. Excess reimbursement caps that at the cost of the add-on (usually well under £100 a year).

How it works

  1. You have a claim and pay your excess as normal.
  2. Once the main claim settles, you submit a short form to the excess insurer.
  3. They pay the excess back into your account.
